Narrenschiff comes from an ancient, heroic tale.  The legendry boat carrying heroes, role models & social élites made its symbolic sailing.  During the journey, some made fortunes, some became the incarnation of fate.  However, only the boat was real in this pretty romantic tale.  The boat actually did exist.  Patients of epileptics & aments were forced to take a boat & were sent away on an endless journey in Europe circa 15th century.  Those marooners’ fate was put in the hands of ocean & sky, drifting away without any aim.

Deriving from the Narrenschiff tale, TUOPISHI tells a story of a spiritual journey through nine photo prints setting in a not-so-far-away future.  It is an extreme hollow, meaningless & soulless era.  The sense of time & space becomes vague & disappearing for unknown reasons.  TUOPISHI sets out on his journey, just like those in the legend, searing for his Avalon.  However, in this story TUOPISHI never leaves his own room.  On his sick bed, TUOPISHI fills his empty heart & visional memory with old pictures or various photos he collected.  The strangers met on his journey, the visit of the prophet, the slop-over when the movie ends all form part of his dream scene.  When everything was over, all these became a shadowy recollection.

TUOPISHI reflects the current supersaturational social system.  The gauze wraps only the surface of the huge wounds caused by the disappearing of the sense of individual existence as well as fading of physical memory.
